When Will We Start Seeing Unlocked Droid X’s?

After a wave of pos­i­tive reviews and crazy fan­boy antic­i­pa­tion, Motorola's Droid X offi­cially hit stores on July 15. In what is now typ­i­cal hot-smartphone-release fash­ion, stores are sell­ing out, online inven­tory is low, and the twit­ter­sphere is fill­ing up with  "ooh i got my Droid X and I luu­uuv it" tweets.

That's all gravy, but you know what unlockedG­PHONE is about … when will we start see­ing unlocked Droid X's in the after­mar­ket? UPDATE: As of July 21, X's are trick­ling onto the after­mar­ket. We're aware of the scut­tle­but on the inter­nets about Motorola per­ma­nently brick­ing the phone if you attempt to unlock the Droid X, but the intre­pid reporters at engadget.com dis­pelled those rumors yes­ter­day. Like them, we're con­fi­dent that the 'next gen­er­a­tion of does' will be suc­cess­fully rooted by some gifted Android developer.

We just hope it's soon.
